Rounding out the year Fall semester

I start this first week of Fall 2022 semester at CSN at an amazing pace meeting all of my instructors day 1. I'm currently working on my Bachelors of Business Management Accounting at College of Southern Nevada with 21 credits earned so far and I'm just starting the Fall Semester taking 15 credits worth of school. I manage all of this while working full time as an armed transit security guard. Computers have interested me since 1995 with the release of the Sony Playstation 1. As a young kid I spent hours, days, weeks playing the latest titles such as Metal Gear Solid 1, Tomb Raider, Crash Team Racing, Final Fantasy VIII. Later on in life after acquiring some money I build my first computer in 2013 consisting of an AMD FX 8350, 16 gigabytes of ram, and EVGA GeForce 780ti. Fast forward almost 10 years later and I've built another machine to keep me entertained playing the latest titles.

I am very glad to have chosen this course instead of the myriad of 200 series business courses. I will save that pain for UNLV next semester.

  1. Glad you met all your instructors on or before Day 1 :-)

Juggling a full-time job and 15 credits is no easy task. With 21 credits under your belt, you got this!

    Welcome to IS101-3012, Fall 2022, Kevin ^_^

  3. Kevin, you are a true achiever. Taking 15 school credits and working full-time must be hard. Taking the maximum credits will get you closer to obtaining your degree. I would like to know a little more about how you built your computer, maybe in the posts to come. This will be a good semester, we got this!

  4. Very impressive background! I am doing the same. I jumped back into school a year ago while also holding down a full time job. I took 18 credits this last spring. I do not know how I made it out without going insane. Best of luck to you. You got this!

  5. Gotta love it, you push yourself to the limit. That is a characteristic you don't see everyday. I am with you all the way.

  6. The class of CIT-114 taught me a lot about how to build computers. It is far better to create your own computer economically and in terms of performance than to buy a brand-name machine directly. Especially as a game enthusiast, their own assembly can meet the demand while taking advantage of the price. We look forward to discussing and learning with each other sometimes.

  10. I know friends who have built their own computers and to this day, it still confuses me how they are able to memorize and pronounce a lot of this stuff! AMD FX 8350, 16 gigabytes of ram, and EVGA GeForce 780t is a literal tongue twister for me but it's absolutely great how you're devoted to computers.

  11. A full-time job and 15 credits? How many energy drinks, coffees, or teas do you drink daily? That is really impressive that you are able to dedicate the time and effort to school, work, and to yourself. Best of luck to you!

    1. Enough to purchase a coffee maker because spending money on energy drinks was draining my budget.

  14. Man Playstation 1 takes me back, I to used to spend a lot of my middle school career in front of a television logging many hours sneaking around as Snake or exploring as Laura Croft or even participating in Tekken tournaments as Law or Kazuya. I never went the PC route though, as a console person I found it easier to keep up with the latest and greatest. Don't get me wrong I am a firm believer that console will never be as good as PC, I am just not up to spending the money or taking the time to develop a PC to my liking.

  15. What a great approach to stay motivated, especially when balancing work and school. I've never engaged in any computer gaming, but the way you brought it up really speaks volumes about the various things that modern technology has been bringing, and it's great that you keep yourself informed about everything.
